January 31-February 6
Jerry Blahut of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Junior...157 pounds...Detroit Lakes, Minn. (Detroit Lakes H.S.)
Blahut recorded a crucial pin over UW-Oshkosh's Kevin Luedtke last Thursday giving MSOE a 21-19 win. Blahut was moved up one weight class and found himself losing the match by a score of 4-0 before he reversed his opponent and pinned him in 1:58. The pin gave the Raiders the extra two points needed for the win.

Shamar Bailey of Maranatha Baptist Bible College
...Senior...184 pounds...Greenwood, Ind. (Center Grove H.S.)
Bailey went a perfect 5-0 last week defeating two LMC opponents and two national qualifiers from last year's NCAA Championship. In a conference dual on Tuesday Bailey defeated Lakeland's Paul Hartt by an 11-2 decision. Bailey then defeated Concordia's Steve Urban twice, pinning him in 4:39 in a LMC dual on Thursday, and defeating him in a 9-1 decision in the Private College Invitational at MSOE on Saturday. Bailey then went on to defeat Ben Dictus of Lawrence University in a 3-1 decision in the semifinals, and Milliken's Joe Krugler, 7-2, in the 184 pound division championship match of the Private College Invitational. For his efforts, he was named MVP of the tournament.

Lee Sparks of Lakeland College

Sparks had a perfect 6-0 record this week. Sparks started out the week pinning Dave Droessler of UW-Platteville in 1:53 on Wednesday. Sparks then went 5-0 at the Knox Duals on Saturday versus wrestlers of Dubuque, Elmhurst, Knox, MSOE, and Wheaton.

Travis Brigham of Concordia University
...Freshman...184 pounds...Manawa, Wis. (Manawa H.S.)
Brigham compiled a 3-1 record last week at the Desert Duals in Las Vegas. In Concordia's 26-13 win over Central College, Brigham pinned Ty Wheeler in 1:02 as the Falcons rolled to a win to begin the holiday meet. Against North Central College (Ill.) Brigham picked up a 8-1 decision over Jim Pattock, along with a pin in 54 seconds over Coe College's Marcus Schneider. Brigham's only loss in the meet was to nationally ranked Nathan Specht of defending national champion Wartburg College. Brigham improves his record to 8-5 on the season.

Joe Fields of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Junior...174 pounds...Farnhamville, Iowa (Prairie Valley H.S.)
On Saturday's dual against UW-Eau Claire Fields recorded a 10-4 decision over Mike Stremer. Fields moved up one weight class (184) for the dual, which MSOE lost 22-19.

November 29-December 5
Lee Sparks of Lakeland College
...Junior...197 pounds...Otsego, Mich. (Ostego H.S.)
Sparks finished the week with a perfect 3-0 record, defeating UW-Whitewater's Kory Lochner 9-3 on Thursday. Sparks then went 2-0 at the MSOE Invite on Saturday claiming 1st place in the 197 weight class, defeating Ahmad Zeaiter of Olivet College in 5:38 in the championship match. Lakeland finished 3rd of 8 teams in the event.

Sparks defeated Pat Detmer of UW-Oshkosh 10-2 in the Muskies' dual with UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Gustav Witte of Concordia University
...Freshman...285 pounds...West Bend, Wis. (West Bend West H.S.)
Witte placed third in the Silver Division at the UW-Stevens Point Open this past weekend. In the third-place match, he pinned Luther College's Ryan Ferguson in 3:31. Witte's individual record at the open was 3-1, as there were no team scores in this season opening event.
