Player of the Week - 2004 Season

Hitter of the Week
Brittany Butcher of Edgewood College
…Freshman…P…St. Charles, IL (St. Charles East High School)
Butcher batted .700 (7-10) with five runs scored and three RBIs during the LMC tournament, helping Edgewood to its first tournament title since 1995 and first-ever NCAA regional appearance. Butcher went 3-3 with a run and an RBI in the championship game. She also scored the winning run in the 11th inning on a wild pitch in the semi-final game to knock off top-seeded Marian College, 3-2. Butcher was 2-4 at the plate versus the Sabres and 2-2 in an 11-3 win over Wisconsin Lutheran in the quarterfinals. For the tournament, Butcher's slugging percentage was .800, while her on-base percentage was a hefty .727. She was also 2-2 in the stolen base category. Edgewood's overall record currently stands at 25-16.

Butcher was the only pitcher in the Lake Michigan Conference to go 4-0 during the conference tournament last week, helping Edgewood to its first tournament title since 1995 and first-ever NCAA regional appearance. Butcher also tallied 24 strikeouts and hurled two complete games. She has been the winning pitcher in each of her last nine appearances while improving to 16-10 in the pitcher's circle. She had a streak of 34.2 consecutive innings without allowing an earned run April 17-30. Butcher also played errorless in the field en route to the tournament championship. The Eagles, the No. 6 seed in the Alma, Mich. regional hosted by Alma College, will play No. 3 University of Chicago on May 7. Edgewood's overall record currently stands at 25-16.

Julia Skenadore of Marian College
…Sophomore…P…DePere, WI (Freedom High School)
Skenadore threw every inning of Marian's 3 LMC Tournament games, finishing with a 0.95 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 29.1 innings pitched. She was a hard-luck 1-2 for the week, dropping 2 one-run extra-inning games. In 3 starts, and 3 complete games, she had just 4 earned runs and 19 hits in those 29.1 innings (.198 opp avg). Skenadore struck out 9 in 7 innings in a win over Concordia. She fanned 11 (a career-high at that point) in a 3-2 11-inning loss to Edgewood, and topped it all with a school-record 18 K's (just 2 off the NCAA record of 20) in 12 innings of a 2-1 12-inning loss to Concordia in Marian final game of the season. Marian finishes the season with a 20-21 record.

Bobbi Jo Merten of Marian College
…Junior…C…St. Cloud, WI (New Holstein High School)
Merten led the team with a red-hot .667 average for the week, as she went 12-18 in the Sabres 6 games. She added 6 runs and 4 RBI, and also was a perfect 4-4 in stolen bases. For the week she had a .684 OB% and a .778 slugging percentage. The regular season champions are 19-19 overall and finished the LMC regular season 10-2.

Mequon, WI (Homestead High School)
Rennicke went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 7 innings pitched. She had 6 K’s and no walks, allowing only 7 hits in a victory over MSOE.
 

Angie Hilgendorf of Concordia University
…Freshman…Pitcher…
Cedarburg, WI (Cedarburg High School)
Following in her teammate’s footsteps, Hilgendorf went 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 7 innings pitched. She had 3 K’s and no walks, allowing only 5 hits in the second victory over MSOE. The Falcons are 13-19, and 7-5 in the LMC.

Hitters of the Week
Rachel Schulze of Marian College
…Senior…OF…Green Bay, WI (Ashwaubenon High School)
Schulze led the Sabres with a .632 batting average for the week (12-19), finishing with 2 doubles, 1 home run, and 5 RBI for a slugging percentage of .895. Her first double of the week broke the Marian school record for doubles, as she now has 12. She had 4 multiple-hit games in 6 outings, including three (3) 3-hit games, and scored 8 runs in 6 games. She made no errors in the field in 14 chances, adding 3 outfield assists. Schulze went 6-for-7 with 6 runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of WLC, including her first HR of the season. The Sabres are 17-17 overall, and 10-2 in the LMC.

Sarah Rennicke of Concordia University
…Freshman…1B/P…Mequon, WI (Homestead High School)
The rookie hit .722 (13-18) in six games for the Falcons last week, including 2 doubles, 3 HR, and 5 RBIs. She had 24 total bases and .727 OB%, including 2 swipes while on the bases (2-2). The Falcons are 13-19 overall, and 7-5 in the LMC.

Pitcher of the Week
Kristin Borre of Edgewood College
…Freshman…Pitcher…Beloit, WI (Turner High School)
Borre was phenomenal last week in leading Edgewood to three victories. Borre hurled three complete games with a total of 15 strikeouts and no walks. She allowed just three earned runs in 18.0 innings pitched. She led off the week with a three-hit shutout in game one of a doubleheader at Maranatha Baptist on April 13. In game two, Borre went seven innings, allowed one hit, and had six strikeouts, as the Eagles defeated Maranatha by a score of 2-1. She then defeated Alverno College, 14-6, on April 18. Borre helped her own cause at the plate as well, going 5-10 with seven RBIs and two runs. Edgewood is 18-15 overall, and 8-2 in the LMC.

Rachel Schulze of Marian College
…Senior…OF…Green Bay, WI (Ashwaubenon High School)
Schulze led the team with a .333 batting average, hitting safely in 5 of the 6 games. She went 6-18 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Her second double of the week was her 10th of the season, tying the Marian school record. Marian is 12-14 overall, and a perfect 6-0 in the LMC.

Pitcher of the Week
Julia Skenandore of Marian College
…Sophomore…P…DePere, WI (Freedom High School)
Skenandore was 2-2 with an ERA of just 0.83 for the week. She made three starts, and threw three complete games. She struck out 26 batters in 25.1 innings, and limited opponents to a .157 average. She got the win in both games of a doubleheader sweep of Concordia, throwing a 1-hitter (2nd of the year) in the opener. She came in on relief in game two, ending with 10 K’s in 4.2 innings of scoreless relief. The Sabres are 12-14 overall and 6-0 in the LMC.

Angela Rintelman of Concordia University
…Freshman…SS…Cedarburg, WI (Cedarburg High School)  
The rookie hit 5-10 (.500) at the plate including a .643 on base percentage. Three of Rintelman’s five hits were doubles, and she knocked in 2 RBI in addition. Concordia is 5-13 on the season.

Bobbi Jo Merten of Marian College
…Junior…C…St. Cloud, WI (New Holstein High School)
Merten hit 13-26 (.500) in leading the Sabres to a 7-1 week as she scored 12 runs in the eight games, adding 8 RBI, and went 7-7 in stolen base opportunities. On the defensive side, she did not make an error in the field in 59 chances, picking off 4 base runners and throwing out 5 more. The Sabres are 10-10 overall and a league best 4-0 in the LMC.

Julia Skenandore of Marian College
…Sophomore…P…DePere, WI (Freedom High School)
The sophomore is honored for the second straight week going 4-0 on the mound and saving another game. For the week she had an ERA of 0.82, striking out 25 batters in 25.2 innings over 6 appearances, allowing just 3 earned runs. In her four starts, she threw 4 complete games and limited opponents to a .202 average. She blanked UW-Platteville and Maranatha for back-to-back shutouts. Skenandore also won the opener and saved the nightcap as the Sabres swept UW-Oshkosh on Sunday. Marian is 10-10 overall and 4-0 in the LMC.

Erin Schultz of Marian College
…Junior…1B…Campbellsport, WI (Campbellsport High School)
Schultz hit 2-5 (.400) in a double-header against
Carthage College. She also had 3 RBIs, a .600 slugging percentage, and made no errors in the field in 15 chances. 

Pitcher of the Week
Julia Skenandore of Marian College
…Sophomore…P…DePere, WI (Freedom High School)
The sophomore dropped a tough 3-1 decision to
Carthage College, throwing a complete game, while allowing just 4 hits and only 1 ER. While striking out 5 batters, she also limited opponents to a .182 batting average. The Sabres are 3-9 on the season.

Darcie Okimosh of Lakeland College
…Sophomore…SS…Shawano, WI (Shawano High School)
In the Muskies’ nine-game spring trip to Florida, Okimosh hit a whopping 17-31 (.548) including 2 doubles, 3 triples, and 2 homeruns. She also added 6 RBIs and had a 1.000 slugging percentage and did not strike out at all at the plate. Lakeland went 4-5 on the week.

Pitcher of the Week

The rookie pitched 7 games in 5 days and compiled a 1.82 ERA including 4 victories and 2 shutouts. She also had 23 Ks in 42.1 innings pitched. The Eagles currently hold a 6-2 record.
