2003 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Marian's Amanda Nickel and Bobbi Jo Merten were named Lake Michigan Conference Co-Hitters of the Week.

Nickel, a sophomore utility player from Waupun High School, had a .625 average on 10-for-16 hitting which included 3 doubles, 2 triples and 1 homerun. She also knocked in 9 runs and scored 4.

Merten, a sophomore infielder from New Holstein High School, hit .600 (12-for-20), including 10 RBIs, 7 runs, and stole 2 bases. In the 5 LMC tournament games for the Sabres, she had a double, a triple, and a homerun.

Marian teammate Julie Skenadore was named Lake Michigan Conference Pitcher of the Week. The freshman southpaw from Freedom High School led the Sabres to the LMC Tournament Championship and a 4-1 record. In her five starts she pitched four complete games sporting a 1.31 ERA. In Skenadore's 32 innings pitched she had 28 strikeouts, 6 earned runs, and limited opponents to a .211 average.

The Sabres will be the #5 seed in the NCAA Regional played in Waverly, Iowa. Marian faces #4 seed Clarke College out of Iowa. Game time is 10:00 am on Friday, May 9. The winner takes on #1 seed Gustavus Adolphus College.

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Bobbi Jo Merten of Marian College was named Lake Michigan Conference Hitter of the Week. The sophomore from New Holstein High School hit 17-for-34 (.500), scored 12 runs, had 5 RBI's, hit 2 doubles and 1 triple in 10 games for the Sabres last week. Merten also stole 11 bases last week. Marian finished the LMC regular season 9-3 (2nd).

Lakeland's Kelly Schmidt and Wisconsin Lutheran's Lindsey Gerke were named Lake Michigan Conference Co-Pitchers of the Week.

Schmidt, a sophomore from Wrightstown, WI, went 3-1 on the mound last week pitching four complete games. She had wins over UW-Stevens Point, Concordia, and MSOE, and her only loss was a 0-1 decision to Carthage in extra innings. In the four games, Schmidt struck out 27 and had only 6 earned runs. The Muskies captured the 2003 LMC regular season title with a 10-2 conference record.

Gerke, a sophomore from Tomah High School, pitched a complete game 2-hitter versus Edgewood last week. In the shutout, she struck out 4, and walked only 2. The Warriors finished the LMC regular season with a 6-6 record (tie for 4th place).

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Wisconsin Lutheran College’s Kelly Fennig and Lakeland College’s Darcie Okimosh were named Lake Michigan Conference Co-Hitters of the Week.

Fennig, a junior outfielder from Muskego High School, had a .600 batting average and a .800 slugging percentage in 6 games for the Warriors last week. She also had 6 RBI’s and struck out only once in 20 at-bats. WLC (6-14, 4-4 LMC) is in 4th place in the Lake Michigan Conference.

Okimosh had a .593 (16-27) batting average and a .889 slugging percentage last week. In the Muskies’ nine games last week she drove in 10 runs, stole 6 bases and walked 6 times. The freshman shortstop from Shawano High School also had 3 triples and 2 doubles.

Muskie teammate Kelly Schmidt was named Lake Michigan Conference Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore from Wrightstown High School went 3-1 in 4 decisions last week. In 26 innings pitched, she had a 1.08 ERA and struck out 17 batters. Lakeland is 11-16 overall and 6-2 in the Lake Michigan Conference.

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Laurel Wipperfurth was named Lake Michigan Conference Softball Hitter of the Week. The senior from Lodi, Wisconsin went 4-for-8 at the plate in two games versus Edgewood College. She had 5 RBIs, 3 doubles, 2 runs, and a home-run which tied the game.

Julie Skenandore of Marian College was named Lake Michigan Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. The freshman from Freedom High School was 2-1 last week sporting a 2.95 ERA. She had 15 K’s in 19 innings, 3 complete games, and pitched a shutout. Marian has a league best 4-0 record, and is 9-8 overall.

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Marian College teammates Amanda Nickel and Alissa DeWar were named Lake Michigan Conference Softball Co-Hitters of the Week.

Nickel, a sophomore utility player from Waupun High School (Wisconsin), had a .500 batting average last week, hitting two homeruns and one double. She had a 1.667 slugging percentage and six RBIs as well.

DeWar, a senior catcher from Janesville Craig High School (Wisconsin), went 4-for-8 at the plate, hit two doubles, scored four runs, and knocked in two runs.

Kelly Schmidt of Lakeland College was named Lake Michigan Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week. The sophomore pitcher from Wrightstown, Wisconsin pitched six innings, struck out four batters, and gave up only one earned run in a two-run loss to Lawrence University.

LMC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK ANNOUNCED
Lakeland College’s Sarah Buechel was named Lake Michigan Conference Softball Hitter of the Week. The sophomore from Fond du Lac High School (Wisconsin) hit .500 (5-10) in four games for the Muskies and knocked in one run. The Muskies are currently 5-10 on the season.

No Lake Michigan Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week was named this week due to no nominations.
