MARIAN'S PEGRAM NAMED TO VERIZON ALL-DISTRICT ACADEMIC
TEAM
The 2003 Verizon Academic
All-District V College Division III Softball team was named today (May 8) by
CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America), and Marian College's
Lexi Pegram (Brownsville, WI) has been named a member of the Second Team
(District V includes: Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Manitoba, and
Ontario). Pegram has been the everyday starter at second base for the LMC
Tournament Champion Sabres, who are making their fourth straight NCAA appearance
beginning tomorrow. She is currently hitting .244 in 31 games (30 starts), and
has set career-highs in games, runs, hits, and RBI already in 2003. She has a
cumulative GPA of 4.00 as a double-major in English and Journalism and has been
on the Dean's List every semester she has attended Marian. Pegram was the only
player from the Lake Michigan Conference to be named to the First or Second
Team, and one of just three from Wisconsin schools. Pegram becomes just the
second Marian athlete to be honored by Verizon, following basketball player
Scott Jaeger (2001-2002 season).

To be nominated, the student-athlete must have been a starter or important
reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for
his/her career. No athlete is eligible until he/she has reached sophomore
athletic and academic standing at his/her current institution. The College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects Verizon Academic
All-America® teams in 12 programs: football, women's volleyball, men's soccer,
women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's
track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, men's at-large
and women's at-large.
