2004-05 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

February 14-20
Sara Langenhorst of Lakeland College
...Senior...Guard...Ripon, Wis. (Ripon H.S.)
Langenhorst led the Muskies to a trio of victories last week and earned a trip to the LMC Tournament Championship as well. For the week she averaged 23.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest. Langenhorst shot over 60% from the field (26-of-43), over 55% from three-point land (10-of-18), and went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. In an 84-59 win at Alverno, she scored 30 points which included a 4-of-5 performance from beyond the arc. On Friday in the LMC Tournament quarterfinals versus MSOE, Langenhorst put up 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Langenhorst then scored 21 points and snagged seven rebounds in a 59-44 win over Marian College in the semifinals on Saturday.

February 7-13
Katie Hensgen of Edgewood College

Hensgen helped Edgewood clinch its first-ever LMC championship by guiding the team to two victories over conference opponents last week. Last Tuesday, Hensgen scored a career-high 20 points and had seven rebounds against Concordia University. Last Saturday, the Eagles' lone senior scored 17 points and added a game-high six assists versus Alverno College. For the week Hensgen averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.

January 31-February 6
Kim Bond of Maranatha Baptist Bible College
...Sophomore...Guard...Watertown, Wis. (Maranatha Baptist Academy)
Bond led the Crusaders to a perfect 3-0 record last week averaging 21.3 points, 3.0 steals and 2.3 assists per game. In a 88-85 overtime victory over Wisconsin Lutheran College, Bond scored the last eight points in regulation to force the extra period. Bond totaled 25 points in the game including five three-pointers. Bond also tallied 17 points in a 62-52 non-conference victory over Lincoln Christian, and 22 points in a 62-51 victory over MSOE. Bond shot over 40% (13-of-30) from three-point land, and 85% (11-of-13) from the free throw line for the week.

Emily Laete of Wisconsin Lutheran College
...Freshman...Forward...Spokane, Wash. (Evergreen Lutheran H.S.)
Laete kept the Warriors close in two conference losses last week averaging 25.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting over 66% (20-of-30) from the floor. In a 88-85 overtime loss to Maranatha Baptist on Tuesday night, Laete scored a LMC season-high 33 points. Later in the week, Laete scored a team-high 18 points in a 61-57 loss to Lakeland College.

January 24-30
Emily Laete of Wisconsin Lutheran College
...Freshman...Forward...Spokane, Wash. (Evergreen Lutheran H.S.)
Laete helped keep the Warriors in a three-way tie for first place with two conference victories last week. In a 77-52 win at Alverno last Tuesday, Laete shot a perfect 13-of-13 from the floor as well as going 3-of-4 from the free throw line scoring a game-high 29 points. Laete also pulled down nine boards and added an assist and a block in the game. On Saturday Laete scored 12 points and had 6 rebounds in a 51-47 victory over MSOE. She also tallied two blocks and two steals on the defensive end. For the week Laete averaged 20.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game, and shot 74% (17-of-23) from the floor, and 88% (7-of-8) from the foul line.

January 17-23
Nickie Updike of Edgewood College
...Freshman...Forward...Monticello, Wis. (Monticello H.S.)
Updike led the Eagles to a pair of LMC victories last week by averaging 18.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. The rookie forward scored 16 points in only 21 minutes of action in a 63-32 win at Alverno College last Tuesday. Updike then tallied her league-leading seventh double-double of the season on Sunday with 20 points and 14 rebounds, as the Eagles defeated Wisconsin Lutheran College, 58-46. She shot an amazing 70% (14-of-20) from the field and 75% (3-of-4) from the three-point line in the two league contests.

January 10-16
Lea Colon of Alverno College
...Freshman...Guard...Kenosha, Wis. (Kenosha Bradford H.S.)
Colon shot the lights out leading the way to Alverno's first Lake Michigan Conference victory in any sport. The Inferno defeated Maranatha Baptist, 74-66, where Colon came off the bench to lead all scorers with 21 points. Playing in her first game since December 11, Colon shot a blistering 78% (7-of-9) from the field including a perfect 5-of-5 from 3-point range, and a perfect 2-of-2 from the charity stripe.

January 3-9
Chelsea Borgrud of Marian College
...Junior...Forward...Deerfield, Wis. (Deerfield H.S.)
Borgrud led the Sabres with averages of 14.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per game as they were a perfect 3-0 last week. In the first game of the Nassau Goombay Shootout in the Bahamas Borgrud had a game-high 19 points and 9 rebounds as the Sabres defeated Simmons College, 47-40. In the championship game versus Trinity College (Conn.) Borgrud had 20 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks leading the Sabres to a 58-50 victory. She was named Tournament MVP for her efforts. Borgrud then posted a six rebound-four point-three steal performance as she saw limited action in the Sabres' blowout of Silver Lake College, 63-32, on Saturday. On the defensive end, Borgrud averaged 2.3 steals and 1.3 blocks last week. The 3-0 record last week extends Marian's current win streak to five games.

Renee Steinert of Lakeland College
...Senior...Forward...Howards Grove, Wis. (Sheboygan Lutheran H.S.)
Steinert helped the Muskies go 2-0 last week in wins over Silver Lake College and LMC foe Concordia University. In a 91-36 rout of Silver Lake Steinert had 13 points, six assists and four rebounds in only 20 minutes of playing time. Steinert then tore it up in a 71-62 overtime win over Concordia as she had 24 points, 18 rebounds, four assists and four blocks. For the week she averaged 18.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.0 blocks per game while shooting 50% (14-of-28) from the field.

December 27-January 2
Nickie Updike of Edgewood College
...Freshman...Forward...Monticello, Wis. (Monticello H.S.)
Updike averaged 20.7 points and 11.0 rebounds per outing in Edgewood's three games at the Clarke College Holiday Tournament, Dec. 27-31. En route to being the only freshman named to the 10-person all-tournament squad, Updike posted 19 points, six rebounds, and four steals in the Eagles' 78-70 double-overtime loss to Luther College on Dec. 28. In Edgewood's 71-65 win over Viterbo College on Dec. 29, Updike tallied a team-high 24 points, 13 rebounds, and four steals. Then, Updike recorded 19 points and 14 boards in a 90-89 victory over Tri-State University on Dec. 30. Edgewood placed fifth in the eight-team tournament.

Nickie Updike of Edgewood College

Freshman Nickie Updike posted consecutive double-doubles and averaged 19.5 points and 11.0 rebounds in Edgewood's two games last week. She scored 15 points and had 12 rebounds and three steals in the Eagles' 53-47 loss at Maranatha Baptist on Dec. 7. On Dec. 11, Updike helped Edgewood snap Lakeland's 19-game LMC regular season winning streak with a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds, as the Eagles defeated Lakeland 60-54.

Renee Steinert of Lakeland College

Steinert led the Muskies to two victories last week and recorded her first double-double of the season with an 11 point-11 rebound performance versus Beloit College on Tuesday. She followed up the performance with 24 points and 9 rebounds in a 59-53 victory over LMC foe Marian College on Saturday. For the week she averaged 17.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 53.8% (14-for-26) from the field.

November 22-28
Chelsea Borgrud of Marian College
...Junior...Forward...Deerfield, Wis. (Deerfield H.S.)
Borgrud played well in two losing efforts for the Sabres last week averaging 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. She shot 50% from the floor and went 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. She was one rebound shy of a double-double in a 15 point-9 rebound effort at North Park.

November 19-21
Catherine Chappell of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Sophomore...Forward...Lemont, Ill. (Lemont H.S.)
Chappell averaged 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of games in the Franklin Savings Tip-Off Tournament. MSOE split the games losing to tournament host Mt. St. Joseph 79-52, then defeating Randolph-Macon 53-50 in the 3rd place game. Chappell also shot 88% from the free-throw line, and averaged 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. She was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts.
