2001-02 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Women's Basketball Players of the Week announced;
Gross honored second week straight
Players of the Week for Women's Basketball were announced for the week of February 4-10.  Edgewood's Lisa Gross was named Player of the Week, while Hustle Players of the Week were Gross's teammate Jenny Berg, and Maranatha's Christa DeGraw.

Gross averaged 18 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in Edgewood's two LMC contest this week.  Gross was also an outstanding 18-19 from the free-throw line.  The Eagles went 2-0 for the week, including a 53-51 upset over LMC champs Lakeland.

Jenny Berg, another Edgewood Eagle, came off the bench to score 12 points and grab 6 rebounds in the win over Lakeland.  "Jenny did a great job subbing in.  She worked extremely hard, and hit key shots." comments opposing head coach April Arvan of Lakeland College.

Co-Hustle Player of the Week was Maranatha's Christa DeGraw.  13 proved to be lucky for the sophomore forward as she grabbed 13 rebounds and scored 13 points in a tough game versus LMC foe Marian College.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week announced;
Lakeland's Dewane honored third time this season
Players of the Week for Women's Basketball were announced for the week of January 28-February 3, 2002.  The Player of the week honor was shared by Lakeland's Jill Dewane and Edgewood's Lisa Gross.  Hustle Player of the Week was awarded to Concordia's Jennifer Sweeney.

Dewane receives her third LMC Player of the Week honor, as she did previously on December 10, and January 21.  The Muskie's, who are currently ranked 4th in the NCAA Central Region Poll, went 2-0 for the week with lots of help from Dewane.  She averaged 27.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two contests on 65% shooting (24-37).  Lakeland (21-1, 10-0 LMC) clinched a share of the LMC regular season title with their 69-43 win over Maranatha Baptist on Saturday.

Edgewood's Gross of McFarland, WI helped her team to a 2-0 LMC record for the week with wins over Maranatha Baptist and Concordia.  The junior forward had 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in the two wins.  The Eagles are currently 3rd in the LMC with a 6-3 conference mark and 10-12 overall.

Concordia's Jennifer Sweeney, a 6'1 junior forward out of Loveland, CO, was named Hustle Player of the Week.  According to opposing coach Doug Neumann of Marian College, she showed "Great hustle and effort on both ends of the floor."  She had 14 points and 20 rebounds versus the Sabres.

"Jenny has such great hustle and played a strong, consistent game.  She shot well, defended well, and was incredible on the boards!" comments Coach April Arvan of Lakeland.  Sweeney had 14 points, 14 rebounds and 3 steals in the game against league leading Lakeland.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week announced
Players of the Week for Women's Basketball were announced for the week of January 21-27, 2002.  The Player of the week honor was shared by Edgewood's Kory Schaaf and Lakeland's Jenny Clements.  Hustle Player of the Week was awarded to MSOE's Shari Gorr.

Edgewood's Schaaf came off the bench to score 17 points on 6-11 shooting from the field, and pulled down 5 rebounds in a 5 point loss to 2nd place Wisconsin Lutheran.  The sophomore forward from Mineral Point, WI led all scorers for the game.

Clement's of Lakeland, helped her team to a 2-0 record for the week.  She averaged 17 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, while shooting perfect from the line (5-5) and 60% from 3-point land (3-5).  The Muskies are currently in 1st in the LMC with a 8-0 conference record and have a 19-1 overall mark.

Hustle Player of the Week Shari Gorr was doing all she could to lead all scorers and rebounders with 26 and 14, respectively.  The senior guard out of Sheboygan, WI was also 7-8 from the FT line and 3-5 from 3-point FG's.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week announced;
Lakeland's Dewane captures honors for second time
Players of the Week for Women's Basketball were announced for the week of January 14-20, 2002.  The Player of the week honor was shared by Lakeland's Jill Dewane and MSOE's Shari Gorr.  Hustle Player of the Week was shared by Maranatha's Misty Donough and Marian's Katie Bouchard.

Dewane is honored for the second time this season, as she was for the week of December 3-9.  The Muskies (17-1, 6-0 LMC) went 2-0 for the week as Dewane (Denmark, WI) led the way averaging 26 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4 steals per contest.  Dewane also shot 69% from the field (18-26) and 94% from the line (15-16).

MSOE's Shari Gorr (Sheboygan, WI) averaged one point per contest less than her co-player of the week with 25 ppg.  In a close loss to LMC foe Edgewood, Gorr shot 11-13 from the charity stripe and 3-5 from beyond the arc, while capturing 4 steals on the defensive end.  The Raiders (5-12, 1-5 LMC) went 1-1 for the week in conference play.

Hustle Player of the Week Misty Donough (Perrysville, OH) of Maranatha scored a team high 21 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in a loss to MSOE.  "Misty made it very hard to get the lead.  She always came up with a big shot." from MSOE head coach Laurie Brock.

Marian's Katie Bouchard (Menasha, WI) was also named Hustle Player of the Week.  She provided an explosive spark coming off the bench for the Sabres, scoring 16 points and playing great defense versus league leading Lakeland.  Lakeland's head coach April Arvan states, "Katie did a great job of defending and scoring at crucial times during the game.  She was all over the court!"

Freshman & Sophomores sweep Women's
Basketball Players of the Week awards
Player of the Week honors were shared by Concordia's Stacy Rusch and Marian's Melissa Brenner while Hustle Player of the Week went to Lakeland's Casey Thousand.  The freshman and two sophomores showed outstanding performances in LMC play.  

Concordia's Rusch, a freshman from Sheboygan, WI, recorded her first double-double of the season with 25 points and 10 rebounds in a 3-point win over Marian.  Rusch also tallied 6 assists and 2 steals, and buried 5 three-pointers in the contest.  The Falcons are currently 3-1 in the LMC only a game back of first.

Melissa Brenner (Mt. Calvary, WI) of Marian averaged 19 points per contest, while shooting 58% from the floor (14-24), and only missing one free-throw shooting 91% (10-11) from the charity stripe.  Marian went 1-1 for the week.  The Sabres are 2-1 in LMC play, and 1.5 games back of first.

Rounding up the weekly awards was a third sophomore, Casey Thousand of Lakeland College, honored as Hustle Player of the Week.  Thousand's (Barneveld, WI) Muskies went 1-0 for the week in LMC play, as she racked up 18 points while shooting a perfect 3-3 from beyond the arc.  "What a great effort Casey put forth in our game and her stats are a reflection of her hard work...congrats to her!"  comments opposing head coach Clare Hunter of Edgewood.  Lakeland is currently first in the LMC with a 4-0 conference record and 14-1 overall mark.

Women's Basketball Players of the Week announced
The LMC Players of the Week for Women's Basketball for the first week of competition have been announced.  Player of the Week honors were shared by Concordia's Jenni Studenski and Lakeland's Jill Dewane.  Studenski helped Concordia to a 1-1 start in the LMC averaging 28.5 points per contest while shooting 67% (26-39) from the field.  Last year's LMC Player of the Year, Dewane, averaged 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists per contest.  She also shot 58% (15-26) from the floor and 93% (14-15) from the foul line, leading Lakeland to a 2-0 start in the conference.

Edgewood's Jenny Berg received Hustle Player of the Week honors.  Berg, a Sophomore from Milton, WI, helped the Eagles to a 1-1 start in the LMC by averaging 15 points per game on 11-15 shooting.  She was also perfect from the foul line (5-5), and shot over 40% from 3's.
