1996-97 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Week #7, Feb. 17, 1997
Patty Smith, So, Gd, Florence, WI - Cardinal Stritch College
Smith helped the Crusaders to victories over Maranatha and WI Lutheran, and a share of their second consecutive LMC championship by scopring 37 points on 57% field goal shooting. She hit 83% of her free throws and 67% of her treys while averaging 5.5 rebounds/game.

Mandie Armstrong, So, Fd, Manitowoc, WI - Edgewood College
Armstrong led Edgewood to wins over Concordia (54-49) and Marian (70-62) by averaging 16.5 points and 8 rebounds an outing. On the road at Marian she tallied 23 points and snared 14 rebounds for the Eagles.

TEAM PLAYER/HUSTLER OF THE WEEK
Leslie Jerks, Jr, Fd, Iron Mountain, MI - Lakeland College
8 Assists, 23 Rebounds, 4 Blocks, 7 Steals, Total: 42 hustle points (in three games)

 

Week #6, Feb. 10, 1997
Angie Ihde, Jr, Gd, Hartford, WI - Wisconsin Lutheran College
Ihde powered the Warriors to a pair of wins with strong all-around play. In victories over Edgewood, 56-50, and MSOE, 88-36, Ihde tallied 35 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, and 9 steals to stuff the statt box. She also shot a phenomenal 77% from the floor (17-22).

Angie Newton, Fr, Fd, Antigo, WI - Lakeland College
Newton helped the Muskies to win at Maranatha Baptist (71-51) and at Concordia (55-52) last week. In the two games Newton had 24 points and 19 rebounds as well as 26 total hustle points for the week.

8 Assists, 18 Rebounds, 1 Block, 3 Steals, Total: 30 (in two games)

 

Week #5, Feb. 3, 1997
Patti Smith, So, Gd, Florence, WI - Cardinal Stritch College
Smith helped the Crusaders maintain their hold on first place with a pair of victories including a 61-53 defeat of second place Concordia. In the twin wins, Smith tallied 37 points, 20 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. She hit an amazing 73% from beyond the three-point arc (8-11) and 45% overall from the field.

Sheila Loeffler, Sr, Ct, Sheboygan, WI - Concordia  University
Loeffler battled last week in a pair of games, displaying a hot shooting touch. She averaged 18 points and 6.5 rebounds in a win and a loss but what impressed observers was her blistering 63% field goal shooting and 86% free throw percentage. She also had 3 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal.

Week #4, Jan. 27, 1997
Alana Johnson, Sr, Fd, Chaseburg, WI - Wisconsin Lutheran College
Johnson helped the Warriors defeat previously unbeaten (in the LMC) Cardinal Stritch, whit 16 points and 15 rebounds. Against Maranatha she had 24 points and 9 rebounds. For the week she averaged 21 points, 12 rebounds and 3 assists.

Patty Vandenberghe, Fr, Fd, Liberty Center, OH - Maranatha Baptist Bible College
Vandenberghe helped the Crusaders capture just their second conference win of the season when Maranatha defeated WI Lutheran, 79-73. For the week, the freshman forward was a stat-box stuff averaging 12 points, 10 rebounds, 3.5 steals, 2.5 assists, and 2 steals while shooting 45% from the field, and 50% from beyond the arc.

Week #3, Jan 20, 1997
Michelle Everdyk, Sr, Gd, West Allis, WI - Concordia University
Everdyk helped the Falcons to wins over Lakeland (57-55 ot) and MSOE (80-47) with 27 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 steals. In the two-game stretch she shot 70% (7-10) from three-point range to pace the Concordia attack.

Kelly Curtis, So, Ct, Jefferson, WI - Edgewood College
Curtis led the Eagles to a 66-49 victory over Marian College by pouring in 20 points on 69% (9-13) field goal shooting. She also amassed 9 rebounds (5 offensive), 3 steals, 1 block, and 1 assist.

Leslie Jerks, Jr, Fd, Iron Mountain, MI - Lakeland College
4 Assists, 17 Rebounds, 0 Blocks, 1 Steals, Total: 22 (in one game)

 

Week #2, Jan. 13, 1997
Leslie Jerks, Jr, Fd, Iron Mountain, MI - Lakeland College
Jerks has helped Lakeland to a first place tie by leading the Muskies to a 61-50 win over Marian. In the game she had a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also had 1 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.

Tanya Leonhard, Sr, Ct, Sheboygan, WI - Marian College
Leonhard continued to lead the league with a 20.7 points/game average after tallying 19 points in a loss to Lakeland. In that game she also amassed 11 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 blocks. Later, in a non-conference game against Robert Morris, she became Marian's all-time leading scorer. She now has 1,654 points for her career.

Tanya Heonhard, Sr, Ct, Sheboygan, WI - Marian College
1 Assists, 11 Rebounds, 2 Blocks, 5 Steals, Total: 17

 

Week #1, Dec. 18, 1996
Meredith Wilmet, Fr, Fd, DePere, WI - Lakeland College
Wilmet has been a spark for the Muskies 3-0 start, averaging 19.7 points and 6.7 rebounds an outing. The rookie center has also amassed solid shooting stats (55% field goal, 75% free throw) and contributed 2.3 assists/game.

Alana Johnson, Sr, Fd, Chaseburg, WI - Wisconsin Lutheran College
Johnson has had a phenomenal start to the 1996-97 LMC season, posting averages of 20.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. She is second in the league in scoring, is shooting 86% at the line and 49% from the field, and has 7 steals in three games.
