2003-04 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Players-of-the-Week (Feb. 16-22)
Cory Nickel of Lakeland College
...Senior...Guard...New Holstein, WI (New Holstein High School)
Nickel led Lakeland (15-12) in scoring and assists in all three victories last week, averaging 27.3 points and 5.0 assists per game. He put up 25 points versus MSOE, 34 versus Maranatha, and 23 versus Edgewood. He shot over 50% from the floor (25-46) and 3-point range (13-25), and shot 86% (19-22) from the free-throw line. Nickel also averaged 4.7 rebounds, and 2.0 steals in the three games.

Kevin Christensen of Wisconsin Lutheran College
...Junior...Guard...Racine, WI (Racine Lutheran High School)
Christensen helped the Warriors (12-14) to a 3-0 record last week. He averaged 20.0 points, 6.0 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game. He also shot 46% from the floor (21-45), 33% from the three-point line (4-12), and 70% from the free-throw line (14-20).


Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Feb. 16-22)
Nick Zeck of Lakeland College
...Junior...Center...West Allis, WI
Zeck had one double-double of 20 points and 12 rebounds versus Maranatha, and was a rebound shy in two other games from two more double-doubles last week. He led his team in rebounding in all three games. Lakeland (15-12) was victorious in all three games last week and advanced to the LMC final this Saturday. For the week he averaged 15.0 ppg, 10.0 rpg, and 1.3 apg

Player-of-the-Week (Feb. 9-15)
Titus Redmond of Marian College
...Freshman...Guard/Forward...Chicago, IL (Gordon Tech High School)
Redmond played a key role in the Sabres 3-0 week, leading the team with 16.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 55% from the floor and 71% from the free-throw line. He included a 19 point/8 rebound performance in a win over Northland Baptist, and also had 22 points and 8 rebounds in an 80-79 OT win over Wisconsin Lutheran, making 10-of-11 free throws in the game, including 2 at the end of regulation to force overtime and 2 more with 2.8 seconds left in OT to give Marian the one-point victory.


Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Feb. 9-15)
Alan Laemmrich of Marian College
...Senior...Forward...Neenah, WI (Neenah High School)
Laemmrich averaged 8.7 points and 7.7 rebounds a game for the week, shooting 57% from the floor. He had 8 points and 9 rebounds in a win over Lakeland, making all 6 of his free throws. He had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Wisconsin Lutheran, adding 5 assists.

Player-of-the-Week (Feb. 2-80
Randy Kolinske of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Big Bend, WI (Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School)
Kolinske helped lead the Eagles (12-10, 7-2 LMC) to a pair of wins last week in the LMC. The senior guard had two 20-plus performances, including a career high 28 points versus Wisconsin Lutheran, which entailed 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Against Marian College Kolinske had another great performance with a stat line of 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 2 blocks. For the week Kolinske was 18-34 from the floor (53%), and 10-12 from the free-throw line (83%). He averaged 23.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.0 spg, 3.0 apg, and 1.0 bpg.

Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Feb. 2-8)
Dave Michalkiewicz of Edgewood College
...Junior...Guard...Menasha, WI (St. Mary Central High School)
Michalkiewicz played outstanding in the Eagles two conference victories last week. Versus Wisconsin Lutheran he had a stellar passing performance where he dished out a career high 8 assists. His averages for the week were 11.0 ppg, 5.0 apg, 3.5 rpg, 1.5 spg, and 1.5 bpg.

Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 26-Feb. 1)
Archie Brown of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Junior...Guard...Milwaukee, WI
In a pair of conference wins, Brown tallied 24 points, 11 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. He shot 50% from the field (10-20) and 67% from the free-throw line (4-6). On the defensive end, he held one of WLC's leading scorers to a meager 29% shooting (5-17). For the week Brown averaged 12.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.0 bpg, and 1.0 spg.


Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 26-Feb. 1)
Jeff Mikos of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Sophomore...Guard...Lake Zurich, IL
Mikos helped lead the way as the Raiders (8-12, 5-3 LMC) defeated Marian and Wisconsin Lutheran last week. He had his third double-double of the season versus WLC scoring a team high 26 points and dishing out a team high 11 assists. For the week, he averaged 8.0 apg, 6.0 rpg, and 3.5 spg.

Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 19-25)
Cory Nickel of Lakeland College

Nickel captures the award for the second straight week as he had two more outstanding performances. In an 11-point win over Maranatha, Nickel was 3 rebounds shy of a triple-double as he scored 15 points and dished out 10 assists to go along with the 7 rebounds. Later in the week versus MSOE, he had a career high scoring 36 points on 12-23 shooting (52%), including 6-11 (55%) from beyond the arc, and a perfect 6-6 from the free-throw line. His averages for the week were 25.5 ppg, 7.5 apg, 5.0 rpg, 2.0 spg, and 1.5 bpg. The Muskies improved to 4-2 in the LMC (3rd), and 9-9 overall.


Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 19-25)
Alan Laemmrich of Marian College
...Senior...Forward...Neenah, WI (Neenah High School)
Laemmrich averaged 7.7 points in three games as Marian (4-13, 1-5 LMC) went 1-2 last week, picking up their first win in the LMC. He led the team with 11.3 rebounds a game, getting 11 in a win over Maranatha and a double-double of 12 points and 18 rebounds in a tough loss to Wisconsin Lutheran. Eleven of those career-high 18 rebounds were offensive. He also had 5 assists and a steal.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 12-18)
Cory Nickel of Lakeland College
...Senior...Guard...New Holstein, WI (New Holstein High School)
Nickel had two outstanding offensive performances last week against Wisconsin Lutheran and Marian, where the Muskies (7-9, 2-2 LMC) earned two road wins in the league. At WLC he scored 22 points, including a 5-11 performance from three-point range, to go along with 6 assists. At Marian he put up his first 30 point performance of the season shooting 50% from the field (10-20) and 89% from the charity stripe (8-9). For the week Nickel averaged 27.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 3.5 apg, and 2.5 spg.


Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 12-18)
Nick Zeck of Lakeland College
...Junior...Center...West Allis, WI
Zeck led his team in rebounding in two LMC victories last week versus Wisconsin Lutheran and Marian with 14 and 7, respectively. At WLC, he matched his rebound total scoring 14 points to record his second double-double of the season. For the week he averaged 10.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks per game. The Muskies improve to 2-2 in the league, and 7-9 overall.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 5-11)
Ryan Wietor of Concordia University
...Junior...Forward...West Bend, WI (West Bend West High School)
Wietor led the Falcons (8-5, 3-1) to two victories in two Lake Michigan Conference contests last week. The junior forward shot almost 70% (16-23) from the field and 96% (24-25) from the free-throw line. In the two games he averaged 29.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game.

Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Jan. 5-11)
Jeff Mikos of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Sophomore...Guard...Lake Zurich, IL
Mikos had two outstanding efforts in as many games as the Raiders (6-9, 3-0) defeated Illinois Tech and Wisconsin Lutheran last week. He recorded two double-doubles including 10 assists in each of the games. He averaged 10.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.5 steals per game.

Men's Basketball Players-of-the-Week (Dec. 29-Jan. 4)

Matt Hopf of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Senior...Forward...Howards Grove, WI
Hopf scored 32 points on 9-12 shooting from the field and 14-16 from the free-throw line, and pulled down 8 rebounds in a 79-69 victory over North Central College (Ill.). He also had 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 17 points, 7 rebounds versus Eureka and Rockford, respectively. The senior forward averaged 22.7 points per game, 6.7 rebounds per game, while shooting over 66% (22-33) from the field, and 77% (22-31) from the charity stripe in the Raiders' (4-9, 2-0 LMC) three games last week.

Ryan Wietor of Concordia University
...Junior...Forward...West Bend, WI (West Bend West High School)
In two games last week at the Hope College Tournament, Wietor averaged 22 points on 16-29 shooting, and 7.5 rebounds. For his efforts he was named to the All-tournament team. The Falcons (6-5, 1-1 LMC) defeated the University of Chicago 82-79, before losing to 16th ranked Hope College 73-76 in the championship game.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 22-28)
Luke Sadowski of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Dousman, WI (Mukwonago High School)
The senior point guard led the Eagles (6-4) to a 56-52 win over No. 22 UW-Oshkosh on Sunday. Sadowski led Edgewood with 15 points and 5 assists, and did not commit a turnover in the non-conference contest. He also pulled down 4 rebounds and added a steal in the victory.

Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 22-28)
Todd Paradis of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Hollandale, WI (Pecatonica High School)
Paradis had an outstanding defensive performance versus nationally ranked UW-Oshkosh. He had 4 steals, 2 rebounds and drew 2 charges, while holding Oshkosh's leading scorer below his season scoring average.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 15-21)
Jeff Mikos of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Sophomore...Guard...Lake Zurich, IL
Mikos scored a game high 27 points in a 78-75 Lake Michigan Conference victory over Marian College last week in Fond du Lac. The sophomore guard shot over 60% (10-16) from the field, 40% (2-5) from beyond the arc, and over 70% (5-7) from the free-throw line. He also had three assists, steals, and rebounds in the game. In a 50-69 non-conference loss to UW-La Crosse, Mikos led the Raiders (3-7, 2-0 LMC) with 13 points and four steals. His averages for the week were 20.0 ppg, 3.5 spg, 2.5 apg, and 2.5 rpg.

Men's Basketball Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 15-21)
Dave Michalkiewicz of Edgewood College
...Junior...Guard...Menasha, WI (St. Mary Central High School)
When Michalkiewicz was guarding Clarke's leading scorer, he held him scoreless for 15 minutes. Of his 22 points, zero were scored against Michalkiewicz. The Eagles (5-4, 1-0 LMC) lost 61-67 Clarke College in a non-conference contest.

Men's Basketball Players-of-the-Week (Dec. 8-14)
Andrew Thompson of Milwaukee School of Engineering
...Senior...Forward...Eau Claire, WI
Thompson averaged 14 points and 7 rebounds while shooting 45% (9-20) from the field and 90% (9-10) from the free-throw line in the Lake Michigan Conference/Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference Challenge. For his efforts, he was named to the LMC/NIIC Challenge All-Tournament Team. MSOE (2-6, 1-0 LMC) defeated Dominican University 73-61, but fell to Concordia University of Illinois 57-68. Thompson also had 9 points and 6 boards in a 69-64 victory over LMC foe Maranatha earlier in the week. On the defensive end, he held opponents leading scorers to 30% (9-30) in the three games.

 Randy Kolinske of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Big Bend, WI (Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School)
Kolinske was also named to the LMC/NIIC Challenge All-Tournament Team as the Eagles (5-3, 1-0 LMC) defeated Concordia (Ill.) 69-45, and Dominican 72-58. Versus Concordia, he scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes of playing time. Against Dominican, Kolinske scored 27 and added pairs of assists and steals, and pulled down 3 rebounds. He also had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists in a 71-48 win over defending LMC champions Lakeland. His averages for the week were 21.7 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 1.7 apg, and 1.0 spg while shooting 52.4% (22-42) from the field, 38.1% (8-21) from 3's, and 81.3% (13-16) from the free-throw line.

Men's Basketball Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 8-14)
Greg Blaska of Edgewood College
...Junior...Center...DeForest, WI (DeForest High School)
Blaska averaged 12.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 assists in the Eagles three victories last week. He recorded his first double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 boards versus Lakeland. For his efforts in the LMC/NIIC Challenge, he was also named to the All-Tournament Team.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 1-7)
Ryan Wietor of Concordia University
...Junior...Forward...West Bend, WI (West Bend West High School)
Wietor led the Falcons to the first LMC victory of the season scoring 25 points, grabbing 7 rebounds, and also had 4 steals. Concordia (5-2, 1-0 LMC) trailed Lakeland by 3 at the half, but outscored the Muskies by 24 in the second half to secure the victory. In a non-conference contest versus St. Norbert College earlier in the week, Wietor earned his first double-double of the season scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. For the week he averaged 22.o ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.0 spg, 1.5 apg, and 1.0 bpg while shooting 60.7% (17-28) from the floor, and 90% (9-10) from the free-throw line.

Men's Basketball Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Dec. 1-7)
Randy Kolinske of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Big Bend, WI (Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School)
Kolinske was three assists shy of a triple-double in a non-conference game at Eureka College last week. In the game he had 20 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals as the Eagles (2-3) got their first victory of the season, in a 80-65 win. In limited playing time versus Martin Luther College, which Edgewood won 68-49, he had 15 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 1 assist. Kolinske's averages for the week were 17.5 ppg, 8.0 rpg, 4.0 apg, and 4.0 spg.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Nov. 24-30)
Randy Kolinske of Edgewood College
...Senior...Guard...Big Bend, WI (Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School)
Kolinske played well this past weekend averaging 19.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 4.0 spg, and 2.0 apg in two contests. Yet the Eagles fell 76-87 to host Fontbonne University on Saturday, and 59-74 to Washington University (Missouri) on Sunday.

Men's Basketball Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Nov. 24-30)
Cory Nickel of Lakeland College
...Senior...Guard...New Holstein, WI (New Holstein High School)
Nickel led the defending LMC champions to a 1-1 record last week averaging 6.5 apg, 3.0 rpg, 3.0 bpg, and 1.5 spg. His hustle paid off keeping the Muskies close in a 67-68 heartbreaking loss to Lake Forest, and was just what they needed in a 73-60 victory over Trinity International.

Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week (Nov. 21-23)
Eddie Washetas of Maranatha Baptist Bible College
...Senior...Forward...Chicago, IL
Washetas led the Crusaders to a 1-1 record on the opening weekend of the season in the LMC-Midwest Classic in Ripon. In the two games, he averaged 23.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 4.5 apg while shooting 64% (16-25) from the field and 70% (14-20) from the free-throw line. Maranatha defeated Beloit 82-77 on opening night, but fell to Ripon 89-83 on the second night of the Classic.

Men's Basketball Hustle-Player-of-the-Week (Nov. 21-23)
Nick Lehman of Edgewood College
...Freshman...Forward...Waupun, WI (Waupun High School)
In his first collegiate contest, the rookie was two rebounds shy of a double-double scoring 11 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. Leham also added a steal and an assist in the Eagles' 53-56 loss to host North Park on the opening night of the season.
