Week #7, Feb. 17, 1991
This week's LMC Player of the Week honor goes to MSOE's Brian Geurts. The
6'6 junior center for the Raiders scored a career-high 48 points in MSOE's 97-93
overtime win over Maranatha Baptist. Although it was not a school record (Jeff
Brezovar scored 52 points in 1982), his total for the game is one of the highest
in recent memory in the LMC. Geurts also added games of 20 points versus Marian
and 22 against Edgewood. The De Pere, Wis., native (Abbot Pennings High School)
has now taken over the lead in scoring in the conference and is also tops in
field goal percentage.
Week #6, Feb. 10, 1991
Concordia University's Frank Yinko earns this week's LMC Player of the Week
honor. The 5'11 sophomore guard continued his steady play for the Falcons as he
scored a total 37 points in two LMC games last week. The Sheboygan, Wis.
(Lutheran H.S.) native ranks in every statistical category in the LMC including
scoring where he is fourth and in assists where he is second. Yinko was 12 of 25
from the field, 4 of 7 from three-point range, 9 of 11 from the free throw line
and had 10 boards and 10 assists. Concordia beat Lakeland, 96-93, and lost a
tough 85-77 decision to Edgewood College.
Week #5, Feb. 4, 1991
Edgewood College's Keith Treinen and Cardinal Stritch's Kory Dogs share this
week's LMC Player of the Week honors. Both players led their respective teams to
two consecutive victories last week including major roles in key LMC wins.
Treinen, a 6'7 sophomore from DeForest, Wis. (DeForest H.S.),
scored a total of 37 points on 15 of 24 field goal shooting and 7 of 77 free
throw shooting as his Edgewood Eagles defeated Maranatha Baptist, 73-63, at
Watertown and beat Lakeland College in Madison by an 86-75 margin. His best
effort was in the Maranatha game where he made 10 of 14 field goals and 5 of 5
free throws, as well as grabbing 11 boards.
Dogs sparked Cardinal Stritch to a pair of thrilling
victories last week. The 6'4 junior guard from West Bend (East H.S.) scored the
last six points of regulation and the last six of overtime to lift Stritch to an
84-83 overtime win at MSOE. He had 27 points on the night and added 10 rebounds
and 10 assists for a triple-double. Two nights later, he was held to nine
points, but all nine were crucial as Stritch defeated Marian College, 65-62, to
put Marian and Edgewood into a two-way tie for the lead in the Lake Michigan
Conference.
Week #4, Jan. 28, 1991
For the second time this season, Maranatha's Terrell Cannon is the LMC
Player of the Week. The LMC's leading point-producer had 21 points in an 87-80
home loss to MSOE and then exploded for 39 points in the Crusaders' 84-80
victory at Lakeland. In the Lakeland game, Cannon was 12-17 from the field, a
sparkling 14-14 from the free throw line and had one three-pointer. The senior
guard from Saginaw, Michigan. was also 5-5 from the line against MSOE.
Week #3, Jan. 22, 1991
Northwestern College's Phil Kieselhorst is the LMC Player of the Week. The
6'2 senior forward from Cedarburg, Wis. (Kettle Moraine Lutheran H.S.) scored 19
points to lead the Trojans to a 66-61 upset win over Edgewood College.
Kieselhorst was 8 of 11 from the field, including 1 of 1 from 3-point range, and
was 2 of 2 from the free throw line. He grabbed 3 boards and blocked a total of
four shots in two LMC contests last week.
Week #2, Dec. 17, 1990
Brian Geurts is the latest LMC Player of the Week. The 6'6 junior center
from MSOE had an outstanding game last Saturday in the Raiders' 84-78 overtime
win over Marian College. Geurts scored 33 points on 15 of 20 field goal shooting
and had 11 rebounds. His basket off an offensive rebound at the buzzer sent the
game into overtime. Geurts hails from De Pere, Wis. (Abbot Pennings H.S.).
Week #1, Dec. 10, 1990
The first LMC Player of the Week honor goes out to Maranatha Baptist's
senior Terrell Cannon. A flashy guard from Saginaw, Mich., Cannon nosed out
three other nominees for the first honor of the 1990-91 season.
Cannon leads the LMC in scoring with a 24.0 ppg average. He
also ranks in all six statistical categories. He is averaging 7.0 rebounds and
3.5 assists a game to go along with his 55.7% field goal shooting, 75.9% free
throw shooting and his 42.9% three-point shooting.
The Crusaders' outstanding guard had his top game in an 82-73
loss to Lakeland. He scored 27 points and had five rebounds and four assists.
