1986-87 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Week #5, Feb. 17, 1987
A pair of Cardinal Stritch College players share this week's LMC Player of the Week honor. They are 5'11 senior guard Mike O'Connor (Mount Clemens, MI - Macomb Community College) and 6'8 junior canter Peter Loyda (Whitefish Bay, WI - Whitefish Bay H.S.). O'Connor scored 45 points in two Crusader wins, including a 31 point performance in Stritch's 90-83 win over Lakeland. O'Connor hit on 12 of 28 field goals, including 4 three point field goals, and 11 of 14 shots from the charity stripe in the two wins. He also dished out 11 assists.
Loyda pumped in 39 points, collected 38 rebounds and blocks 6 shots in the Crusader victories. Loyda was 15 of 22 from the field and 9 of 11 from the stripe as he is recovering from a lingering back problem.
With their 72-61 win at Concordia, Cardinal Stritch moved to within a half-game of the Falcon's for the lead in the LMC.

Week #4
It was one of the toughest decisions to make this season as there were numerous outstanding performances, but Concordia forward Ted Karling is this weeks Lake Michigan Conference Player of the Week. The 6'2 junior from Maywood, Illinois played a vital role in two big wins for the current LMC leader. 16 of his 24 points versus Maranatha Baptist came in the 2nd half as the Falcons came from behind to nip the stubborn Crusaders 81-76. Concordia trailed by 6 points at the midway point. Karling added 12 more points in a crucial 80-69 conquest of Trinity Christian, who came into the game just two games behind the leader. Ted made 16 of 23 field goal attempts and grabbed 15 boards along with 4 steals.

Week #2
A couple of outstanding offensive performances highlighted last week's action in the conference as Trinity Christian's John Theune and MSOE's Brian Michalowski each scored over 30 points in games against Lakeland.
TC's Theune, only a freshman, scored 32 points in the Troll's 78-72 win over Lakeland on the Muskie's home court. Theune, from Sheboygan, WI (Lutheran High School) gave the hometown fans a lot to cheer about as he hit on 9 of 15 field goals and 14 of 15 free throws. The victory over Lakeland was the first ever for the Trolls.
MSOE's Michalowski, perhaps the oldest college player in the nation, continued his impressive showings as he scored 34 points in a 101-94 loss to Lakeland. The 34 year old senior guard from South Milwaukee nailed 7 of 14 three pointers and hit on all 9 of his free throws.

Week #1, Jan. 20, 1987
Concordia guard Eric Coleman is the first Lake Michigan Conference Player of the Week for this season. The senior from Milwaukee scored 14 points in a win over MSOE and connected for 17 more in the Falcons key LMC victory over Lakeland. Coleman also went over the 1,000 point mark for his career which is believed to be the first time that the feat had been accomplished at Concordia. The victory over Lakeland put Concordia into the lead in the conference 1/2 game ahead of Stritch.
