1996 PLAYER OF THE WEEK

May 7, 1996
Jason Bartelt, Lakeland College, Sr, SS, Ashwaubenon, WI
Bartelt helped the Muskies to split against Concordia and a second place finish in the LMC by going 5-8 last week. He scored 5 runs, and tallied 4 RBIS in the twinbill. He also had three doubles, and a triple.

Tony Kaiser, Marian College, Jr, P, Mosinee, WI
Marian clinched their ninth consecutive LMC title thanks in part to Kaiser who tossed two complete game shutouts last week. Against Concordia, he allowed only two hits in seven innings pitched, walking 3,. In defeating Cardinal Stritch Kaiser had 6 Ks and surrendered just three hits. He also led the league in ERA with an amazing 0.45 mark.


April 30, 1996
Mike Alwardt, Concordia University, Jr, P/OF, Collinsville, IL
In twin wins over Maranatha Baptist, Alwardt collected five hits, seven runs scored and 12 RBIs in just nine at bats. He also powered three homeruns, walked twice and stole two bases to help the Falcons improve to 4-2 in league play.

Chad Nickolai, Marian College, Sr, P, Germantown, WI
Last week, Nickolai hurled a pair of five-inning shutouts to raise his conference record to 3-0. Against WI Lutheran, he allowed 2 hits and recorded 5 K's with no walks. Versus Lakeland, he also allowed 2 hits while striking out 3 and walking one.


April 23, 1996
Wayne Druktenis, Marian College, So, OF, Oakland, IL
Druktenis has sparked the Sabres to a 4-0 start with his team leading .538 batting average. In Marian's sweep of Maranatha he hit .600 with 4 RBIs, a double and one homerrun.

Ken Poniewaz, Cardinal Stritch College, Fr, SS/P, West Allis, WI
Poniewaz was a busy man in the Crusaders split with Lakeland College last week. In game one, Poniewaz hurled a 6-hitter allowing no earned runs and picking up the 10-3 victory with 5 K's. In game two, he took the field as shortstop and was flawless defensively. In two games at the plate, he was 3 for 6 with 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, a walk and a stolen base.

LMC News & Notes: Bill Patten (Edgewood) tossed a 5-hitter to pick up a 6-1 victory over Maranatha...According to MSOE baseball, Matt Kaiser hit a 510 foot homerun against Lakeland College, the longest in NCAA III history...Chad Gorman (Lakeland) collected 3 doubles, 5 runs, and 3 RBIs on 5 hits last week.
 

April 16, 1996
Tony Caravella, Cardinal Stritch College, Sr, CF, Milwaukee, WI
In a split of games with Maranatha, Caravella hit .700. In the fourth innings of the second game he hit two grand slams in a 29-12 slug-fest. In the double-header he had 7 hits, 6 runs scored, 13 RBIs, 1 triple, and 1 double.

Troy Ziegler, Lakeland College, Sr, RHP, Sparta, WI
Ziegler picked up two victories last wekk including tossing 6 shutout innings against Maranatha. He surrendered just 3 earned runs and recorded 13 K's in 13 innings of work. Opposing hitters had just 7 knocks and 4 walks for their efforts.
